TED Talks: Everyday Cybercrime

Maybe you’ve seen the inspiring TED lecture series. Here’s a fantastic presentation that posted this week featuring James Lyne, Director of Technology Strategy for Sophos, that looks at online cybercrime and demonstrates how today’s modern hackers are actually quite adept, professional and well-organized, and how easy it can be to take over computers and gain remote access.

 

But his most important point is that there is inevitably a balance between convenience and security. But we can all take a big step toward improving our defenses by doing the ‘basics’: update and patch your computer, use secure passwords, and use different passwords.

Coincidentally (or not), these are all items that have a role to play in maintaining PCI DSS compliance too.
