VPN Concentrators

Below, we highlight the features and capabilities of our complete range of VPN concentrators. While you will see differences in hardware, note the many standard features shared by all models. This is enabled by our proprietary, PCI-certified network platform, the Mako System, and its cloud-based network management and monitoring application, the Mako Central Management System (CMS).

Mako VPN concentrators are enterprise-grade rackmount or virtual Mako devices that can connect many hundreds or thousands of remote sites to a central network, third-party services or each other via thousands of secure VPN tunnels using SD-WAN technology. Mako VPN Cloud connections encrypt your data for transmission in both directions, delivering private communication over the public Internet for your distributed enterprise.

Our secure, fully cloud-managed Mako VPN concentrators are optimized for hardware and geographic redundancy and high-throughput, low-overhead performance, resulting in maximum speed and reliability. Typically deployed to head offices, data centers or larger sites, such as hospitals and airports, rackmount models can do double duty as a wired security gateway for their deployment site, with an integrated next-gen firewall and VLAN support. Optional SFP ports add WAN flexibility for circuit redundancy. Alternatively, virtual models are available for deployment to popular cloud platforms.

7000 Series

Mako 7000 Series high-performance VPN concentrators are designed to connect hundreds of sites together via up to 3000 secure VPN tunnels. They are best suited for medium-scale distributed enterprise deployments and can also function as a wired security gateway with integrated next-gen firewall. As critical infrastructure components, these Mako devices offer flexible redundancy options to deliver high availability. Available as either 1U rackmount models for data center deployment or a virtual model for cloud platform deployment.

Rely on a 1U rack-mountable device designed for large companies that need to connect hundreds of sites together via secure VPNs.

8000 Series

Mako 8000 Series high-performance VPN concentrators are designed to connect thousands of sites into a single secure corporate network via up to 8000 secure VPN tunnels. They are the best choice for large-scale distributed enterprise deployments. Top-quality hardware provides maximum high-speed, high-volume data transmission. As critical infrastructure components, these Mako devices offer flexible redundancy options to deliver high availability. Available as either 1U rackmount models for data center deployment or a virtual model for cloud platform deployment.

Key Features

HIGH PERFORMANCE

Mako VPN concentrators are optimized for high-throughput, low-overhead performance, resulting in maximum speed and volume of data transmission. Rated to terminate thousands of Mako VPN Cloud tunnels, Mako VPN concentrators are designed to handle rapid growth, traffic spikes and flexible routing with ease.

HIGH AVAILABILITY

Two or more Mako VPN concentrators can be configured to use circuit, geographic or hardware redundancy for high availability, supporting Active/Active, Active/Passive and Load Balancing modes. Certain models have a backup power supply, as well.

MAKO VPN CLOUD MAKES VPNS EASY AND SECURE

Connect retail locations or other remote sites to head offices, data centers or third-party vendors easily. Using Mako’s cloud-based SD-WAN technology, Mako VPN Cloud, allows your Mako security gateway to connect to other sites in seconds with a few clicks in the Mako CMS, all without requiring static IP addresses. Your data is encrypted in both transmission directions for maximum security. And Mako VPN Cloud scales easily with your distributed enterprise, eliminating networking pain points caused by rapid growth and inconsistent environments.

IPSEC INCLUSION

Third-party network devices can be incorporated into a Mako SD-WAN using IPsec. These devices will not benefit from the Mako CMS management features afforded to Mako devices, but they can join the same distributed enterprise network.

BGP SUPPORT

Mako VPN concentrators support Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) for easy compatibility with complex data center configurations.

SFP PORTS

Small form-factor pluggable (SFP) ports accept a variety of different network interface modules, including Ethernet and fiber-optic interfaces. This brings both added density and maximum flexibility to a Mako VPN concentrator’s WAN/LAN port options. The SFP+ ports on the Mako 7600-S and Mako 8600-S models support speeds up to 10 Gbps.

NEXT-GEN FIREWALL

Most Mako security gateways feature Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) technology, including packet inspection and Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDS/IPS). All traffic entering and leaving a network is scrutinized to ensure network connections are authorized and intrusion attempts are identified and blocked. Port scanning protection, worm detection, MAC address control and complex firewall rules can be templated and deployed to thousands of Mako devices at once via the Mako CMS, massively reducing the time to implement changes and ensuring an organization’s security posture is readily up to date.

PCI DSS CERTIFIED

Unlike other networking solutions, the entire Mako System, including the Mako CMS and all Mako devices, is end‐to‐end PCI DSS certified, providing peace of mind that your sensitive data is handled properly. Mako’s PCI-certified enterprise templates facilitate bulk security configuration of Mako devices and make it easy to demonstrate compliance when necessary.

CLOUD MANAGEMENT AND MONITORING

Mako security gateways are fully cloud-managed via the Mako CMS, making remote management, monitoring and support simple and straightforward. Using a patented communications protocol, each Mako device connects securely to the Mako CMS over the public Internet. User security features include multi-factor authentication and role-based permissions. Authorized users have 24/7 remote access from anywhere in the world to a complete suite of cloud-based tools for advanced configuration, automated real-time alerts, enterprise reporting and troubleshooting diagnostics, reducing or eliminating the need for on-site maintenance.
