Mako VPN Cloud Offers Secure, Reliable SD-WAN for Distributed Networks

Mako Networks’ flexible VPN Cloud solution meets the stringent security and reliability demands of modern business networks without sacrificing speed or compromising value.

ELGIN, IL, February 26, 2019 – Mako VPN Cloud from Mako Networks offers an unbeatable combination of price, speed, security, and reliability for distributed networks of virtually any size. It is designed to link distributed or remote locations to any combination of data centers, head offices, third-party vendors, brands or remote users with robust, user-definable resiliency over any combination of circuits and with complete geographic redundancy.

To ensure high availability, Mako VPN Cloud allows connectivity over multiple internet connections using SD-WAN routing to deliver cheaper, faster, and more resilient connectivity. Mako SD-WAN technology provides redundancy at both the distributed locations and the data center/head office ends of the connection.

Security features for Mako VPN Cloud are rigorous. All communications are securely encrypted using strong, industrial grade AES (128bit/256bit) encryption required by the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Perfect Forward Secrecy (ECDHE) is used to protect private data against brute force offline attacks. All endpoints are securely identified and authenticated using industrial grade certificates (ECDSA).

Latency overhead of sending traffic through a Mako VPN Cloud is minimal, with an average increase of less than 5ms. Throughput differs depending on the Mako hardware appliance and exact encryption algorithm being used. Mako VPN Cloud has an overhead of 68-bytes per packet, which equates to a 4.5% bandwidth overhead for a typical Internet connection with a 1500-byte MTU.

“Performance expectations for distributed networks continue to rise,” said Simon Gamble, President, Mako Networks. “Mako VPN Cloud technology is up to the challenge. It supports configurable levels of redundancy from data-saving right up to seamless connectivity. With a Mako VPN Cloud SD-WAN, you can be on a VoIP call, unplug the WAN cable, and the call will not drop.”

Mako VPN Cloud automatically works with both dynamic and static Internet IP addresses, as well as in NAT environments. It can coexist with established MPLS and other private networks. It integrates with BGP. These are some of the many Mako VPN Cloud features that illustrate a flexibility to suit any networking need, regardless of whether the goal is to preserve an existing network or to start a new system from the ground up.

A simple configuration process is a key Mako VPN Cloud advantage over other VPN technologies, such as IPSec. The Mako Central Management System (CMS) provides cloud-based configuration, reporting, and diagnostic tools. This includes an overview of the connection status of all Mako appliances within a VPN Cloud, including VPN connection status, the duration of existing connections, and latency information.

Mako’s VPN Cloud technology provides secure, scalable, highly redundant wide area networking and allows for transport across multiple carriers using virtually any Internet connection. It offers distributed enterprises opportunities to improve network reliability, reduce costs, and enhance security, while also creating high levels of visibility and control for internal network operators and management.
